LOTTERY ENROLLMENT CLOSED 11/13
No need to rush to sign up as in years past, as we are using a lottery system and families can nominate themselves anytime during the sign up week! You may only enter the lottery one time per family, additional entries will be deleted.
Families will be chosen by a lottery system and will be notified by email on Friday, November 20th, 2009 about whether they are registered to participate in the Holiday Toy Program or on the waitlist. Each registered family will receive 2 gifts per child and a gift certificate for their holiday meal.
The Holiday Toy Program distribution will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 9AM to 12PM, and 1PM to 4PM. A parent from the registered family must be available to shop for toys on this date to participate in the program. More specific information will be provided by email on November 20, 2009.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- "Why do you use a lottery system?
- We are using a lottery system to try to give as many families as possible the chance to participate in the program and to decrease the stress of trying to be online on a specific day to try to sign up for the program!
- “I see the program is only open to E-5 and below, what if we are an E-6 family and we know the holidays will be tough for us this year?”
- We wish we could serve everyone, but this program is in high demand and we are only able to meet the needs of E-5 and below. An ID card must be presented. If your family is E-7 and below and experiencing severe hardship, and you would like assistance from our skilled team of social workers, please call our Family Outreach Department at 858-751-5755. Also please contact other military support agencies to find out their holiday program requirements, but understand that we have a common goal to serve as many military families in need as possible; please try to limit yourselves to one holiday program.
- "On November 20th I got an email that says I’m on the waitlist. What does this mean?"
- We are trying to serve as many families as possible through our holiday toy program. If you are on the waitlist, this means that we do not know if we will have enough toys to serve your family. If there is availability after the original lottery winners are served (registered families) we will open up the program for waitlist families. All waitlist families that can be accommodated will receive an email inviting them to participate in the program on December 17th, 2009. You will be notified of availability by email only, on the evening of the 16th or on the 17th, so please by sure to check your email often.
- "What if I am a registered family and I can’t come on Dec. 16th? Can you hold items for me?"
- Unfortunately, we are not able to hold any items including gift certificates. Please make arrangements for you or your spouse to attend on the 16th, and if this is not possible, please notify us. We are able to arrange for you to come and shop on the following day with waitlist families, however, items will be subject to availability as with waitlist families.
- "Can I bring my children while I shop?"
- We ask that you make your own childcare arrangements, if possible, or you can trade off with a friend while you shop. This gives parents the opportunity to surprise their children with gifts coming from them for the holidays. If you need to bring your child, we will have limited childcare help available. Absolutely no children are allowed in the shopping area, including infants!!
- "Can a friend pick up items for me?"
- No, only the active duty sponsor or spouse may pick up items, and they must bring a valid military ID.
- "I have several children; can I get toys for each of them?"
- When you sign up you can include any children in your family that are listed on your page 2, age 17 and under.
- "I see the signup is online only and you need an email address. What if I don’t have an email address or access to a computer?"
- Please sign up for a free account (yahoo.com or gmail.com offer free email) at your local library, or use one at a friend’s house. Our limited staff is unable to make confirmation calls due to the volume of participants. Please double-check that you provide us a valid email address when you register, and check your email regularly beginning on November 20th. Also please check your spam folder as sometimes items are mistakenly filtered there. If you will be on leave during this time, please provide a personal email address. Email is the only way you will be notified about your program participation.
- "I don’t see my question listed here. Whom can I contact for more information?"
- Please email
